The Challenge

Choosing the right containment solution is essential for optimizing efficiency and effectiveness. Hot aisle containment enables users to increase the return air temperature to 30°C and above, enhancing the free cooling potential of the cooling system. While cold aisle containment is equally efficient, raising the return air temperature to 30°C or higher may create discomfort for data center personnel.

What We Did

An important aspect of implementing hot or cold aisle containment in your data center involves establishing a designated space within a space. Compliance with fire codes necessitates that each enclosed area be equipped with fire detection and suppression systems. To address this requirement, a ceiling system can be employed that is designed to disengage and allow the existing fire detection and suppression mechanisms to operate effectively. Two prevalent technologies are commonly used for this purpose: some ceiling tiles are constructed from a material that contracts and drops at 135°F, while others utilize a thermal switch that, when activated, releases a magnetic system holding the ceiling tiles in place.
